Most people think that with the abundance of food in our Western world that we surely can’t have nutritional deficiencies.  However, with the prevalence of processed foods, chemicals, additives, preservatives and fad diets, there are many people with nutritional deficiencies.  Do you wonder why you’re always hungry? Australian’s Nutrition Levels

 

Most people think that Australian’s nutrition levels are adequate and healthy.  After all, we are a healthy country.  However, Australia’s Health 2018 report, published by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare indicated otherwise. In 2014–15, 50% of adults and 68% of children ate sufficient serves of fruit, and 7% of adults and 5% of children ate sufficient serves of vegetables. This is a concerningly low amount of the total population.

 

Based on the Australian Health Survey 2011-12, 8.2% of Australians 18 years and over have elevated blood glucose levels. This is comprised of:

  • 5.1% who have diabetes
  • 3.1% who have impaired fasting glucose (IFG).

In 2017-18, the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ National Health Survey showed that two thirds (67.0%) of Australian adults were overweight or obese (12.5 million people), an increase from 63.4% in 2014-15
